Pattaya Self-guided Tours (Updated 2024)

Pattaya (Pattaya)

Pattaya is one of Thailand's major tourist cities, located 150 km southeast of Bangkok. After being developed as a resort for soldiers during the Vietnam War, Pattaya has become a popular resort now. It is often called the 'Hawaii of the Orient' for its luxurious hotels for tourists, stunning beaches, and colorful streets that twinkle with countless neon signs at night.

Pattaya travel time and weather

The tropical climate of Pattaya can be easily divided into the dry season (November to February), the period when it is hot and not rainy, but the humidity gradually increases (March to May), and the rainy season (June to October).

Among them, January and February, the dry season, are the coolest and sunny weather of the year, with little rain, and it's easy to understand if you think it's the peak season.

Still, the basic weather itself is hot, so light summer clothes are best, but you can feel relatively cool in the morning and evening, so it is very helpful to pack a thin long-sleeved shirt. Due to the nature of Southeast Asia, the sunlight is very hot and the UV rays are strong, so it is recommended to prepare sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.

Major tourist attractions in Pattaya

① Pattaya Beach
Pattaya's representative beach is a vast beach where you can enjoy various activities such as snorkeling, banana boat, and parasailing. There are luxury hotels and resorts mainly for tourists in the northern part of the beach, and there are various attractions in the south, such as Walking Street and Ko Lan Island, which can be accessed through the Bali Hai Pier.

② Pattaya Walking Street
Pattaya's Walking Street, which becomes more colorful at night, is a popular tourist attraction all over the world. There is a variety of food, including fresh seafood dishes, and there are bars along the street, live cafes, sparkling neon signs, and tourists from all over the world gather to create an unusual scene.
However, the walking street is an area where many entertainment establishments are concentrated, so it may not be suitable if you are planning a family trip.

③ Tiger Park Pattaya
Located about 20 minutes away from Pattaya Beach, Tiger Park is a tourist attraction in Pattaya where you can actually see, touch, and take pictures together. From small baby tigers to giant adult tigers, you can choose any size of tigers you want to go on tour.
I remember being scared by the pressure of a tiger in front of my eyes. Tiger Park tigers have long been trained and domesticated by trainers, so there is no problem if they only follow the instructions and guidance of their trainers.

Transportation in Pattaya

① Songthaew
Songthaew, most commonly found and used in Pattaya, is a form of transportation that can accommodate several people in the back of a truck. Most of them only run on one road (to put it simply, a straight line), and only one section is repeated from the end of the line to the end, and there is no separate stop, so you can get on and off freely anywhere. In addition, you can ride it at a very low price, but it is only available for 10 baht regardless of the distance. In a way, the further you go, the better.

② Motosai
Motosai, a motorcycle taxi is a common mode of transportation when traveling short distances. Since you sit behind the driver and ride it, it is common to use it when you do not have any luggage, and it is essential to bargain after telling the driver your destination before boarding. Since there is a high possibility of safety problems, don't relax and never use it after drinking.

③ Taxi
In Pattaya, you often see more Songthaew than taxis. In particular, there are times when you can't see a taxi near Pattaya Beach at all, but it is inevitable to use a taxi if you travel a long distance away from Pattaya Beach. It is common to use grabs or bolts to set up a destination and call a taxi yourself.

Food of Pattaya

Pattaya is a particularly popular area for foreign tourists, so there are many different types of restaurants. Walking along Pattaya Beach, you will find many restaurants that mainly sell barbecues and steaks. In addition, it is fun to find food that suits each person's taste because you can easily find Thai street food that is sold cheaply on the street and there are night markets everywhere.

Precautions for Pattaya Travel

Always be vigilant about pickpockets in crowded areas such as Pattaya Beach and Walking Street. It's also a good idea to always check your wallet or bag and not carry unnecessary cards or too much cash.

In the case of the aforementioned Songthaew, it is recommended to study the latest route map in advance. This is because if you do not check the route map or board the Song Tae-woo recklessly based on the old route map, you may go somewhere you do not know.
